Featuring the paintings of the late, (Charles Laurel) VAVRINA (1928-2009), aFort Myers businessman turned artist, VAVRINA promoted the Impressionist movement of Matisse, Cezanne, Van Gogh and Monet. His forte was bright colors and broad strokes in oil and acrylic. In his last few years, he turned more to Abstract Expressionism, which includes this Under-the-Sea series and the Outer Space series.

Coastal themed subjects include the various species found in SW Florida including shells, fish, birds, manatee, turtles, and even a few mermaids! The Art Galleries of Florida Gulf Coast University offer exhibitions of contemporary art from local, national and international level artists in our Main Gallery in its service to the university and our southwest Florida community. The Main Gallery also hosts the works of our Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition and our Senior Project Exhibitions at the end of the semester. Our second and smaller gallery, The ArtLab, is dedicated to the exhibition of student work. The ArtLab exhibitions change every two to three weeks while the Main Gallery exhibitions are scheduled for a four to five week run. Opening receptions, Gallery Talks and visits to the galleries are free and open to the public.
